After Schooling

Many years ago, when I was in highschool, my mother happened to say, "But of course you know when Columbus sailed...  don't you?"

And of course, I didn't!

Worse than that, I couldn't even place that famous mariner in his correct century!

That little exchange earned me a crash course on History, attended by one student (myself) and taught by my mother.  By the end of it, I could break down the twentieth century into decades and tell you roughly what happened in each one, and I could tell you when Columbus discovered the Americas!

History is still a very neglected subject in many schools today.  So, with that in mind, I've created a series of readings in Canadian History, organized chronologically, to be read to my own children at bedtime.

I've also written a short novel for them, "The A to Z's of Time Travel,".  This story can be found on the Fiction page.

Hopefully, when my children are teenagers, they'll have a solid sense of their place in history.  At the very least they'll know that in "fourteen-hundred-ninety-two Columbus sailed the ocean blue."
